Bangladesh Legend Hangs His Boots As Most Capped ODI Player For His Country
Mushfiqur Rahim played 274 ODIs with his last game in the format coming against New Zealand in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025. He could contribute just two runs in the tournament in as many innings, and with the next ICC tournament in the format two years away, the 37-year-old has decided to hang his boots.
He is the most capped player in ODIs for his country and is the second-highest run-scorer in the format after Tamim Iqbal for Bangladesh. He has nine hundreds and 49 fifties in ODIs for Bangladesh and was part of the golden generation which played a big role in scripting many memorable victories in the last decade or so.
Mushfiqur Rahim made his ODI debut in 2006 against Zimbabwe and played five 50-over World Cups. He also captained his country across formats and is the finest wicketkeeper batter to emerge from Bangladesh.
In his retirement post, Mushfiqur Rahim thanked everyone who supported him in his journey, and it remains to be seen how he goes about his business in the longest format. Earlier on Wednesday, Steve Smith also announced his retirement from the ODI format, making it a sad day for cricket fans around the world.
