MS Dhoni might be taking a break from cricket, but he is far from staying out of the headlines. The former India skipper is all set to inaugurate a brand-new, international-standard cricket stadium in Madurai on Thursday.

Madurai gets its dream stadium

Developed by the Velammal Educational Trust with support from the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), the Madurai stadium is nothing short of world-class. Built at a whopping cost of INR 325 crore, the facility is spread across 11.5 acres near Velammal Hospital on Chinthamani Ring Road.

The venue has multiple practice pitches, a dedicated players’ lounge, gym and even in-house medical facilities. With a top-notch drainage system designed for quick water clearance and lighting towers installed after consultations with experts from Australia and England, this one is built for big nights.

The stadium’s first phase includes 7,300 seats, with future expansion taking it up to a 20,000-capacity gallery. Security-wise, 197 CCTV cameras keep an eye on the ground and its surroundings. Once operational, the Madurai venue is expected to host TNPL, Ranji Trophy and even IPL matches in the near future, which makes it Tamil Nadu’s second-largest stadium after Chepauk.

Dhoni’s MI jersey sparks fan storm

Just when fans thought Dhoni’s off-season would be quiet, a photo popped up on Instagram that flipped the script. Shared by entrepreneur Arjun Vaidya, the image showed Dhoni playing a friendly football match, casually sporting a sleeveless Mumbai Indians jersey.

The post, simply captioned “Football game with MS”, was enough to send fans into meltdown. In no time, comment sections were filled with conjectures.

While the photo may have been nothing more than a wardrobe coincidence, the timing couldn’t have been juicier. With IPL 2026 auctions looming and Dhoni’s future still unclear, fans were quick to connect the dots.
