In a significant development, Australia's star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has revealed that he is eyeing to be fit in time to play the last three T20Is against India. The Men in Blue are set to travel down under for a three-match ODI series and five T20Is starting on October 19.
Maxwell eyes return to ground with India T20Is
Glenn Maxwell, who is now active in T20Is after ODI retirement, failed to make it to the squad because of a wrist injury ahead of the New Zealand T20Is. Notably, Glenn was hit on the hand by a powerful shot by Mitchell Owen, following which he was ruled out of the series and eventually decided to undergo surgery to hasten his return.
"I think having the surgery last week sort of gives me a little bit more hope of playing some part in that India series, if I can get myself right. The only reason I had the surgery was that the options they gave me were to miss that series completely, or have surgery, and it gives me a slim chance to hopefully play a part. And if not, I'll be ready earlier for the BBL, and I think it leaves me in good standing to get the rest of my body right," Maxwell said as quoted by ESPN cricinfo.
It is worth noting that Cricket Australia has only released the squad for the first two T20Is.
Maxwell opens up on freak injury during training
Maxwell added that he got unlucky with the hit as the impact was straight on the bone, and if it had hit him on the flesh, it would have been fine. However, the right-handed batter added that he now avoids bowling to big-hitters like Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, and Mitchell Owen.
