Ottneil Baartman and Lizaad Williams name replacement of Kwena Maphaka
Ottneil Baartman, who was part of South Africa's squad in the T20 World Cup 2024, has been included in the T20I squad for games in Pakistan and Namibia. Lizaad Williams, on the other hand, has been drafted into the ODI squad for the Pakistan tour.
As far as Kwena Maphaka is concerned, he will undergo rehabilitation for four weeks after scans revealed a grade 1-2 injury. This is the first major injury that the youngster has suffered since the time he made headlines in the U19 World Cup 2024.
Interestingly, the pacer even bowled 10 overs in the second innings after getting injured in the first outing with the ball. He had scans done immediately after the injury, but they did not reveal anything serious, and hence Maphaka came back on the field. The scans after the match were done to confirm his availability for the international tours, and he was expected to be fit. However, the injury seems to have aggravated, and hence the cricketer will miss the important tour of Pakistan.
Kwena Maphaka 's swift progress in world cricket
Maphaka has been a regular part of South Africa's white-ball setup since his debut in August 2024. He has played in all three formats and recently did well on the tour of Australia. He has also played for the Mumbai Indians and the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL and is considered one of the brightest young talents in the rainbow nation.
Thus, Maphaka would be hoping that he gets fit soon and continues his swift rise in South African cricket with T20 World Cup around the corner.
