Gopi Krishnan, a die-hard MS Dhoni fan who went viral for painting his Tamil Nadu house in CSK colors, died by suicide at the same residence earlier this week. A police officer in Ramanatham has revealed that Krishnan took the extreme step owing to previous enmities regarding financial issues with a few men from the neighboring village.

Ardent MS Dhoni and CSK fan commits suicide

According to police, Gopi Krishnan committed suicide in the early morning of his house in Arangur in Cuddalore district on January 18. As per a report by Indian Express, Krishnan’s brother Ram confirmed that he killed himself owing to a financial dispute with a few men, mere days after encountering a violent altercation against them.

Back in October 2020, Gopi Krishnan went viral across the cricketing spectrum for painting his house in MS Dhoni and CSK colors. The CSK franchise itself took note of his tribute, and shared pictures of his residence and family on their social media accounts. In the caption, the CSK franchise wrote:

“Super Fan Gopi Krishnan and his family in Arangur, Tamil Nadu call their residence Home of Dhoni Fan and rightly so. A super duper tribute that fills our hearts with #yellove. #WhistlePodu #WhistleFromHome”

Gopi Krishnan’s gesture also attracted the attention of big man MS Dhoni himself, who hailed his efforts in a video released by CSK’s YouTube channel. The CSK captain described it a “great gesture”, and commended his super fan for going great lengths to show his love for the cricketer and for the franchise. He said:

“It is not something that can be done very easily. You say…You decide… the whole family needs to agree on that and then you go ahead with something like that. I would like to say thank you to the full family and I think it’s a great gesture.”

MS Dhoni, meanwhile, will be soon be making his return to CSK lore through the upcoming IPL 2024 season. The legendary cricketer was retained by the franchise last November, a few months after he had hinted a possibility of extending his playing career by another season.
