Former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan has again landed in hot water after a court in Dhaka passed an order imposing travel ban on the 38-year-old. On June 16, the court passed the order after Shakib alongside 14 others were alleged of corruption charges.

Shakib Al Hasan has been accused of corruption, money embezzlement, and amassing illegal wealth through suspicious investments in the stock market, as reported by Business Standard.

Shakib Al Hasan Banned From Leaving Country

The past year has not been kind to Shakib, as he has not returned to Bangladesh since August 2024 due to the political unrest in his home country.

In August 2024, Bangladeshi students held protests against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, which turned violent and forced Hasina to flee the country. Shakib was also under scrutiny, as he was associated with Hasina’s party and served as a Member of Parliament for the Awami League.

Following the India Tests, Shakib announced his retirement but never got to play his farewell Test against South Africa, as he was unable to return to Bangladesh after the incident.

Murder Case Against Shakib Al Hasan

Shakib has been embroiled in a grave controversy, facing accusations of involvement in the murder of a garment factory worker. The allegations emerged while Shakib was in Pakistan, participating in a two-match Test series.

Despite the ongoing political crisis, Shakib was granted permission by the interim government to take part in the Test series against Pakistan. However, The BCB has received a legal notice demanding Shakib’s removal from the national cricket team. Notably, Shakib did not play in the series against Pakistan, and his appearance against India was his last international match.

Shakib Al Hasan Banned From Bowling

Earlier this year, the ECB had banned Shakib Al Hasan from bowling after the southpaw was accused of illegal action.

“Shakib is ineligible to bowl in ECB competitions until he has passed an independent re-assessment of his bowling action,” the ECB said in a statement.

However, later, Shakib was allowed to bowl again after his action was found to be correct. In the latest developments, it is unclear whether Shakib is currently in Bangladesh or not, but he has landed in an even bigger controversy with the Dhaka court’s order against him.
