In a significant development, there are reports that England’s star seamer Jofra Archer has registered for the Big Bash League (BBL) draft. According to a report from the BBC, the 15th edition of the BBL draft is set to take place on June 19, and Archer has not only shown interest in Australia’s premier T20 league, but the right-arm seamer has also confirmed his full availability for the tournament.

The report added that around 40 English men and 10 women have registered for the BBL draft, and Archer is among them. Unlike Ollie Pope and Jacob Bethell, who have registered to play a limited number of games, Jofra has committed to being available for the entire season.

Jofra Archer’s Stint in the BBL

This will be the third BBL season in which Jofra Archer participates, and he is set to return to the league after a seven-year absence. Notably, Jofra rose to fame and earned an international call-up after his performances for the Hobart Hurricanes in the 2017–18 season.

The 30-year-old played for the Hobart Hurricanes in 2017 and 2018, taking 34 wickets at an average of 23.26. The right-arm seamer made his England debut in 2019 and has been a regular member of the national side since then.

Why Jofra Archer Might Miss BBL 2025?

It is worth noting that Jofra Archer is currently out of action due to a thumb injury. He will also miss the first Test against England, which starts on June 20.

However, England’s chief selector has confirmed that Archer is recovering well and is in contention to play for England from the second Test onward. Thus, if Jofra gets fully fit and performs well for the Three Lions, he is likely to be a certain starter for England in the Ashes.

Notably, the upcoming Ashes will take place in Australia from November 21 to January 8. The BBL window runs from December to January, so the two tournaments will overlap, and several international stars may miss out on the BBL as a result.
