Washington Freedom have suffered a heavy blow in the ongoing edition of Major League Cricket (MLC), as their star seamer Jason Behrendorff has been ruled out of the season with an undisclosed injury.

Washington did not reveal the nature of the injury but wished the 35-year-old a speedy recovery. The franchise also confirmed that a replacement will be announced soon.

“Jason Behrendorff is ruled out of Cognizant Major League Cricket Season 3 due to an injury. The group is going to miss his energy and his experience. We wish Dorff a speedy recovery and hope to see him back with us next season. Jason’s replacement will be announced soon,” read the official press release.

Notably, Jason Behrendorff was yet to play a single match in the tournament. Washington Freedom have played two matches so far and are placed third on the table with one win.

Behrendorff in Great Form

The 35-year-old has been in high demand, making a significant impact in the most recent Big Bash League (BBL). The left-arm seamer picked up 17 wickets in 10 innings for the Perth Scorchers and was the leading wicket-taker in the 2024–25 season.

Following his success in the BBL, Behrendorff featured in the SA20 but managed just two wickets in three matches. His last IPL appearance came in 2023, when he took 14 wickets for Mumbai Indians. He was ruled out of IPL 2024 due to a freak leg injury.

Behrendorff Hangs Up His Boots in State Cricket

After his BBL success, Behrendorff took a big step in his career by announcing his retirement from state cricket after 16 years with Western Australia. The left-arm seamer made the decision to focus on other formats of the game.

“I’m taking a step in a slightly different direction, but by no means is cricket finished for me; I’ve still got plenty of cricket left in me, but from a WA point of view, it’s time to move on,” Behrendorff said to CA.

However, injuries have not been kind to him, and the latest setback in the MLC is a significant blow for Jason.
