The cricket world is on its way to witness some thrilling red ball action soon, as England is set to face India in a five-match Test series. Even before the series starts, England received a massive setback as Jofra Archer’s injury struggle is still on.

As the first Test is set to be staged on June 20, Archer has been ruled out from the match. Reflecting on that, former England star Stuart Broad quipped that the ECB might now be hoping for some return on their long-term investment in the speedster.

Broad Hints ECB Wants Some 'Archer Time'

Right after his international debut, Jofra Archer dealt with countless injuries. As England is all set to take on India in a five-match Test series, Archer received another setback. After sustaining a thumb injury in the IPL 2025, he will be missing out on the first Test. After making his Test debut in 2019, he played his last Test against India in 2021.

Despite being in England’s central contract for six years, his presence has been limited. While talking to the PA news agency, as quoted by the INDEPENDENT, England’s Stuart Broad joked that the ECB is likely expecting results from their ongoing investment in Archer.

“I’m assuming England have had him on a red-ball contract for a few years since he last made an impact. They’ll be wanting to get some repayment out of that,” he said.

Broad Bets Big On Archer’s Comeback

As the England Cricket Board has said, the English pacer has been ruled out just for the first Test match, but the question has arisen whether he will feature in the remaining Test matches. When asked about it, Stuart Broad admitted he is optimistic about Archer’s return.

“I’m sure he’ll play a part at some stage if he’s fit. It will just be making sure his body is hard enough to be able to do the job. That is a really, really difficult question to answer because you can only really get match fit for a Test match by playing red-ball cricket,” he said.

“It will be a huge gamble. If we see him in whites for England this summer, there will be a lot of people chewing fingernails and praying a bone doesn’t crack,” he added.

Archer’s injury ahead of the first Test is a setback for the side. As the speedster was eyeing a Test comeback after a long time, the injury made him wait longer. Without Archer, Ben Stokes and Co. will face India at Headingley in the first Test on June 20.
