India and Pakistan played one of the finest finals ever as the Men in Blue kept their nerves to seal a sensational 5-wicket win to capture the Asia Cup 2025 title. In a chase of 147, the Indian side crumbled under pressure as they lost Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shubman Gill inside 20 runs.
PM Modi takes subtle dig at Pakistan after India's win
However, the young gun, Tilak Varma, came to life as the Mumbai Indians star remained unbeaten at 69 off 53 balls, and alongside Shivam Dube (33 off 22) sealed a memorable victory for the defending Asia Cup champions.
With the ball, it was Kuldeep Yadav, who scalped 4 for 30 to dismantle the Pakistan batters, and in the process, became the leading wicket-taker in Asia Cup history. After India’s scintillating win, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his social media handle X and shared a subtle message for Indian fans, subtly taking a dig at Pakistan.
"#Operation Sindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same - India wins! Congrats to our cricketers," PM Modi tweeted.
The tweet went viral in minutes as fans expressed their excitement on the sudden tweet by the PM himself.
India-Pakistan tussle ends with victory for Men in Blue
With the Pahalgam terror attack taking place in April 2025, it was unclear whether India would play in the Asia Cup. However, the team participated and controversies escalated as Suryakumar dedicated India’s group stage win over Pakistan towards the victims of the Pahalgam attack.
This infuriated PCB, who reached the doors of the ICC, but the governing body rejected the plea. Pakistan cricket also threatened to boycott the Asia Cup clash vs the UAE, but they took a U-turn at the last moment. Complaints were filed against Suryakumar Yadav, Sahibzada Farhan, and Haris Rauf during the tournament, as more than cricket, controversies took centre stage, and it culminated with a brilliant triumph for the Men in Blue.
