A major post-match controversy erupted after India’s historic 5-wicket win against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final. Suryakumar Yadav and Co refused to accept the trophy from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

In a dramatic turn of events, Naqvi walked off from the presentation celebration with the Asia Cup trophy and medals. This act by him prompted outrage from the Indian camp and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

BCCI Demands Immediate Return Of Asia Cup Trophy

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has now officially criticised the act, calling it 'unsportsmanlike' and 'unfortunate'. He also confirmed that India will lodge a formal protest at the upcoming ICC conference in November.

“We had decided not to take the trophy from the ACC chairman who happens to be one of the leading leaders of Pakistan. But that does not mean that the gentleman will take away the trophy along with the medals,” Saikia said in a post-match press interaction. “It is very unfortunate, very unsporting, and we hope that the trophy and the medals will be returned to India as soon as possible. We are going to protest against this at the ICC conference in November,” Saikia said as quoted by The Indian Express.

The protest from the Indian team rose after political tensions between the two nations and the presence of a Pakistani political figure presenting the trophy.

Devajit Saikia added that while India had made a principled decision not to take the trophy from someone representing an 'enemy state,'. But he also mentioned that this also did not give Naqvi the power to withhold the trophy from the rightful winners.

“We were never prepared to take the trophy from someone representing the country that wages war against us. However, that doesn’t mean he can walk away with it,” Saikia added.

The BCCI is expected to submit a formal protest letter to both the ICC and ACC, demanding the immediate return of the Asia Cup trophy and the players’ medals.
