During the press conference the captain announced the move, however later on platform X, he made the announcement. He said the money would go towards supporting soldiers involved in Operation Sindoor and also to the families of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.
“I have decided to donate my match fees from this tournament to support our Armed Forces and the families of the victims who suffered from the Pahalgam terror attack. You always remain in my thoughts. Jai Hind,” Suryakumar Yadav tweeted.
This isn’t the first time the 35-year-old has stood by the armed forces or the Pahalgam victims. His latest gesture once again showed his deep respect and love for the country.
However, the final also saw a big controversy. After India’s win, the team refused to step onto the stage to receive the trophy from PCB and ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi. As a result, Naqvi left with the trophy, and India ended up celebrating without it.
Speaking about the incident, Suryakumar said,
“I think this is one thing that I have never seen since I started playing cricket, since I started following cricket, that a champion team is denied to get a trophy. I mean that, too, a hard-earned one…I feel we deserved it and I can’t say anything more."
On the field, India successfully chased Pakistan’s target of 147 runs with five wickets in hand and just two balls left. Tilak Varma was the star of the match, scoring an unbeaten 69 runs off 53 balls, hitting three fours and four sixes.
Following the victory, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a reward of ₹21 crore for the players and support staff.
