After the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2025 final, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha announced that the entire match fees of the team from the final would be donated to civilians and children affected during India's Operation Sindoor.
It is important to note that shortly after the match, Suryakumar Yadav pledged his own match earnings to the Indian Army and the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.
The Indian captain took to social media to make this announcement. He stated that he would donate his entire match fee to the Indian Army, specifically for soldiers involved in Operation Sindoor and for the families of those killed in the recent terror incident in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir.
Pakistan Captain follows Suryakumar Yadav’s footsteps
A similar gesture was made by Pakistan captain, Agha, speaking at the post-match press conference following Pakistan's five-wicket loss to India in the final held in Dubai, said -
“As a team, we have decided to donate our match fees to the civilians and children affected by India’s attack,” Agha said at the post-match press conference as quoted by Hindustan Times.
India’s historic win was anchored by Kuldeep Yadav’s four-wicket haul and a sensational unbeaten 69 off 53 balls by star batter Tilak Varma.
Controversy after the Asia Cup final
While the match showcased high-quality cricket, the post-match events were affected by controversy. The Indian team allegedly refused to receive the Asia Cup trophy from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi, who also heads the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Naqvi later walked away with the trophy and was seen taking it back to his hotel.
After this, BCCI president Devajit Saikia criticised this act and confirmed that India would file a formal complaint. He also demanded that Mohsin Naqvi return the trophy and medals as soon as possible.
