In a significant development, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has reportedly created a new plan to sidestep a direct face-off with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at the ongoing ICC Executive Board meeting in Dubai.
According to a report by news agency PTI, Naqvi is likely to skip the crucial meeting. It is important to note that he mentioned 'domestic political issues' as the reason for his absence.
Naqvi to skip ICC Executive Board meeting in Dubai
The ICC’s four-day meeting began on Tuesday, and the Asia Cup trophy controversy has not been formally discussed by either board at the meeting. However, the issue is expected to be brought up during the later sessions, giving Naqvi some breathing space to handle the matter before it escalates further.
It would not be wrong to say that Naqvi’s decision to skip the event appears to be a move to avoid direct confrontation with the BCCI.
According to the same report, PCB stated that Chief Operating Officer Sumair Syed will represent Pakistan at the ICC meeting on November 7 in place of Naqvi. There is also speculation that Naqvi might attend the meeting remotely if the situation demands.
It is worth noting that, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had earlier warned that if the Asia Cup trophy was not handed over to India by November 3, the matter would be raised formally at the ICC meeting.
The Asia Cup trophy controversy
It is important to note that this controversy began after Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi after India beat Pakistan in the final on September 28, 2025.
Mohsin Naqvi took the trophy along with him and later on demanded a formal ceremony to hand over the trophy to the winning team. According to several reports, the trophy is kept at the ACC's headquarters, but several reports also claim that the trophy is with Mohsin Naqvi. Exact clarity about where the trophy actually is is not known yet.
