The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ousted the entire selection committee following the national team's lacklustre display in the 2023 World Cup, as the team missed out on a coveted spot in the semifinals in India.

Earlier, Inzamam-ul-Haq, the chief selector of the Pakistan cricket team, resigned from his position, citing the team's subpar performance in the World Cup 2023. He also faced allegations of conflict of interest.

Now, there have been reports suggesting that Mohammad Hafeez and Younis Khan are top candidates for positions on the selection committee.

Both Younis Khan and Mohammad Hafeez are celebrated for their leadership prowess. Pakistan clinched the 2009 T20 World Cup under Younis Khan's captaincy, while Hafeez also boasts a stellar track record in the shortest format.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) invited both former cricketers apart from Wahab Riaz and Sohail Tanvir after sacking the entire selection committee.

The first task for the new selection committee is to choose the squad for the upcoming Australia tour. Meanwhile, the decision about Babar Azam's captaincy is in the pipeline and will be made once the selection committee is fully operational.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan team endured a dismal showing in the 2023 World Cup, securing only four victories out of nine matches. The once-praised bowling attack, considered the world's best, faced a harsh reality check and was outplayed.
