The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise will likely part ways with English all-rounder Ben Stokes for the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Late last year, the franchise had acquired the cricketer for a staggering sum at the IPL 2023 auction.

However, injury concerns ensured that Stokes' availability for CSK was restricted to just two matches. Moreover, his full presence for next year's IPL is already in jeopardy, considering the cricketer is due to undergo knee surgery within a few months.

Ben Stokes likely to be released by CSK

Ben Stokes, who set the cash registers ringing at the IPL 2023 auction back in December 2022, is set to be released by the CSK franchise ahead of next year's 2024 season. According to reports, the CSK management is not willing to take a risk over his full availability owing to his imminent knee surgery.

Having made his CSK debut in IPL this year, Ben Stokes only played two matches before he was forced out of the tournament owing to a toe injury.

The English veteran also failed to make much impact in his limited presence, as he scored only 15 runs in his two appearances and did not take a single wicket with the ball.

The injury he sustained during IPL 2023 also marred his presence in England's Test set-up throughout their international home season, which featured a one-off game against Ireland and a five-match Ashes challenge against arch-rivals Australia.

Quite recently, Ben Stokes was fast-tracked back into England's World Cup 2023 squad, despite announcing his retirement from ODIs in 2022. While prevailing injury restricted the cricketer's role as an all-rounder, the 32-year-old bludgeoned thunderous match-winning knocks for England in their final two matches of the tournament.
