Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif is facing backlash from fans as one of his old tweets from 2016 resurfaces on social media. Kaif reflects on the South Africa team's exit from the T20 World Cup 2016 in a tweet, highlighting the importance of a team performing at its best on any given day, regardless of its on-paper strength.

Here’s what Mohammad Kaif had wrote on his official Twitter account:

“Disappointing to see one of my fvrt #SA exit early from #WT20. It doesn't matter how strong you are on paper, you have to perform on the day."

Now, fans are labelling him a ‘hypocrite’ because, after India lost the ODI World Cup final to Australia, he refused to accept Australia's win, claiming India was the paper favourite all along.

Once again, he found himself under scrutiny when Suryakumar Yadav-led India outplayed Australia in the recent five-match T20I series, securing a 4–1 margin.

Kaif once again weighed in on India's performance, reviving the ongoing 'best team on paper' debate and said this time the better team on paper won.

Here’s what Mohammad Kaif wrote:

“Better talent, better skills. This time the better team on field, and on paper, won. 4-1.”

Notably, Kaif faced criticism from Australian players after tweeting that the 2023 World Cup's best team on paper did not win.

Former Australian cricketers Damien Martyn and David Warner mocked Kaif for his intriguing comment, especially considering Australia's dominance in the final against India.
