In a significant development, Bangladesh's captain Najmul Hossain Shanto is all set to miss the upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies due to a left groin injury. Notably, the stylish left-handed batter was also ruled out of the decider of the recently held three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in Sharjah.
How Did Shanto Sustain Groin Injury?
Notably, Najmul Hossain Shanto developed the injury while fielding during the second ODI of the Afghanistan series. Soon after getting hurt, Shanto was taken for an MRI scan that revealed a Grade-II strain in his groin region. Therefore, he was eventually ruled out of the deciding face-off in Sharjah, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz leading Bangladesh in the all-important clash.
"Shanto underwent an MRI in Sharjah yesterday. We have received the team physio's report and the scan report, which has confirmed a Grade II strain on his left groin. This will require a period of rest and rehabilitation. He has been ruled out of the third ODI against Afghanistan and will also be unavailable for the Test series in the West Indies," BCB's Senior Physician Dr. Debashis Chowdhury stated.
