Phil Salt Likely To Miss IPL Playoffs [Source: @IPL/x.com]
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) could be facing a big setback ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 playoffs. Their in-form batter, Phil Salt, might miss the crucial matches. Salt didn’t play RCB’s last two games against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC) because he had a high fever.
Now, although he’s feeling better and RCB have made it to the playoffs along with Gujarat Titans (GT), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Mumbai Indians (MI), there’s a new reason he might not play.
RCB Might Miss Star Player Phil Salt For IPL 2025 Playoffs
As revealed by ESPNcricinfo, Phil Salt is likely to miss the playoffs because he and his long-time girlfriend, Abi McLaven, are expecting a baby soon. The couple has been together since 2020. Abi works as a freelance virtual assistant, skilled in social media marketing, content strategy, and business consulting.
Is RCB Signing Tim Seifert A Sign?
The 28-year-old English has had a strong season with RCB, especially as an opening partner with Virat Kohli. In the nine matches he played, Salt scored 239 runs with an average of 26.56 and a high strike rate of 168.31.
Recently, RCB signed New Zealand player Tim Seifert as a replacement for young English batter Jacob Bethell. Bethell had stepped in for Salt when he was ill but is now leaving the IPL to join England’s national team for a white-ball series against the West Indies.
Seifert’s signing could be a hint that Salt might be leaving soon, although nothing has been confirmed yet.
Notably, RCB’s head coach Andy Flower mentioned that Salt is fit and could still play in the remaining league games against SRH and LSG.
RCB are currently in second place on the points table with 17 points. If they win both their remaining games, they will definitely secure a top-two finish. Even one win might be enough, depending on how GT and PBKS perform in their upcoming matches. But if RCB loses both, they will not finish in the top two.
