Australia's Nathan Lyon, one of the world's leading off-spinners, has signed a three-year deal with Big Bash League (BBL) with the Melbourne Renegades franchise, keeping him with the club until 2025-26.

Lyon, who missed the last three Ashes 2023 Tests due to a calf injury, will move on from Sydney Sixers, who he played ten long seasons, and won the 2019-20 title. Lyon, 38, made his BBL debut with Adelaide Strikers in the inaugural season and has since featured in 38 matches claiming 44 wickets.

In a statement, Lyon expressed his thrill to be part of the new club and looked forward to bowling alongside Adam Zampa.

Here's what Lyon said

"I’m absolutely thrilled to be part of the Melbourne Renegades. (Marvel Stadium’s) a place where I enjoy bowling, it tends to spin a little bit. I’m looking forward to hopefully joining up with ‘Zamps’ in a really good partnership and putting a show on for the Renegades fans."

"I’ve got some really good friends who are part of the Melbourne Renegades, and that’s one of the reasons I wanted to come down. There’s a good group of senior players there who I’ve played a lot of cricket with internationally and also domestically, then you look at the younger guys throughout the roster – it’s a pretty powerful squad in my eyes."

Interestingly, if Lyon plays for Australia in their upcoming home season against Pakistan and West Indies, the spinner will miss a majority of BBL 13.
