On Saturday, June 22, Maharashtra's star left-arm bowler Samad Fallah announced his retirement from professional cricket at the age of 39. The left-arm seamer took to Instagram to update the fans about his decision.

Samad has been instrumental for his state over the years as he will end his career as the leading wicket taker for Maharashtra in Ranji Trophy history. The 39-year-old has taken 272 wickets in 74 matches which includes fourteen five-wicket haul.

Samad made his debut in 2007 and despite his 17 years of service to the game, Fallah failed to catch the selectors' eyes and could not make his India debut. However, he did represent Rajasthan Royals in the IPL from 2011-13.

"Retirement is not an easy word.. but had accepted it couple of years back.. announcing it is formality… from not playing any age group to taking a fiver on debut and becoming the highest wicket taker in ranji trophy for my Maharashtra.. this state has given me my identity.. winning the Mushtaq Ali trophy finals by taking 4fer to take tender in semi-finals of ranji trophy semifinals.. thank you mca for trusting me. I gave my all and am so happy I have played most BCCI finals for Maharashtra.. and will still be with my MCA till I win trophy’s for my state.. I say goodbye to my bowling which is the most amazing gift I had.. thank you all," posted Fallah.

Fallah last played in a domestic game in 2021, where he represented Uttarakhand as he shifted his base away from Maharashtra. However, Samad returned to his previous side but failed to get any game.
