In light of the emerging controversy surrounding WhatsApp chats allegedly linked to Pakistan captain, Babar Azam, legendary fast bowler Waqar Younis has stepped forward to defend him.

Waqar Younis condemns sensationalizing Babar’s private chats

The contentious chats implied that Babar tried to contact the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Zaka Ashraf, but to no avail.

The specific text message circulating in media spaces posed a question to Babar regarding his recent attempts to get in touch with the PCB Chairman. The reply from a contact saved as "Babar Azam New" was a denial, firmly stating that no such call was made.

Waqar, who is presently part of the commentary panel for the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, didn’t hold back in voicing his displeasure with the way the matter was being sensationalized.

Expressing his disdain, Waqar stated, “Ya kya Karna ki koshish kar raha ho aap loog??? This is pathetic !!! Khush ho gaya aap loog. Please leave @babarazam258 alone . He’s an asset of Pakistan Cricket @TheRealPCB @ARYNEWSOFFICIAL @Salman_ARY."

While the controversy unfolds, Babar remains focused on leading the Pakistan team in the World Cup 2023 which is being hosted in India. Under his leadership, Pakistan secured wins in their first two games which included a new record for the highest successful run-chase in World Cup history against Sri Lanka.

However, since then everything has gone downhill for the Men in Green. Babar’s side is now under pressure following a streak of four defeats and is looking to bounce back in their upcoming clash against Bangladesh on Tuesday, October 21 in Kolkata.

As far as Babar’s form is concerned, he has amassed 207 runs in the tournament with three half-centuries but not a single one of them has been impactful.
