Nissanka dismised on 46 [X.Com]
Sri Lanka's Pathum Nissanka has been a revelation for his side in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. After a disappointing outing against South Africa, wherein he was dismissed for a duck, the Sri Lankan batter bounced back in styel, smashing four fifties in a row.
Nissanka missed out historic landmark
Ahead of Sri Lanka's much anticipated clash against Afghanistan, Nissanka had his eyes set on a historic milestone. Had he scored a fifty against the Afghan team, it would have been his fifth World Cup fifty in a row, which would have been a record in itself.
He scored fifties against Pakistan (51), Australia (61), Netherlands (54), and England (77*), but narrowly missed out on the opportunity (46) against the opponent today. The Lankan batter played some delightful strokes and countered the Afghanistan bowlers after a sedate start to the innings.
However, one lapse of concentration led to his wicket. He chased at an outside the off stump delivery from Omarzai, and got a thick edge as the keeper, Rahmanullah Gurbaz made no mistake with the catch.
Nissanka was dejected after the dismissal, as the record was firmly in his sight.
