The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction was full of surprises, but the biggest buzz came when 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi was signed by the Rajasthan Royals for a whopping ₹1.1 crore. Hailing from Bihar, this young talented batsman has already made history as the youngest player ever to join the prestigious league.
Vaibhav quickly made headlines not just for his talent but also for his age—13 years and 243 days. During the auction in Jeddah, a fierce bidding war broke out between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. Eventually, Rajasthan, coached by cricket legend Rahul Dravid, secured the youngster for their squad.
Controversy Clouds The Vaibhav's Celebration
As soon as the news broke, rumours of age fraud began circulating. Some questioned whether Vaibhav is actually 15, sparking a debate across social media. Addressing the allegations, his father, Sanjiv Suryavanshi, confidently stood by his son.
“When he was 8 and a half years old he first appeared for a BCCI bone test. He has already played India U-19. We don’t fear anyone. He can again undergo age test.”
Vaibhav, who grew up in the small village of Motipur near Samastipur, has already showcased his skills at the domestic level. He has played five Ranji Trophy matches since his debut earlier this year and recently made his T20 debut on November 23. His father revealed Vaibhav’s trials with Rajasthan Royals.
“During trials in Nagpur, batting coach Vikram Rathour gave him a task to score 17 runs in one over. Vaibhav hit three sixes! In total, he smashed eight sixes and four boundaries during the trials,” shared Sanjiv.
Vaibhav Breaks The Record For Being Youngest Cricketer To Score International Century
Vaibhav’s remarkable journey is no fluke. Last year, he broke the record for being the youngest cricketer to score an international century. At just 13 years and 288 days, he hammered 104 runs off 62 balls in a Youth Test against Australia U-19. This feat dethroned the previous record-holder, Bangladesh’s captain Najmul Hossain Shanto.
