In a remarkable display of mutual admiration between two giants of their respective sports, World No.1 tennis player Novak Djokovic extended his congratulations to Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli for his stellar performance in the cricket World Cup 2023.

Tennis icon Djokovic celebrates Kohli's historic 50th ODI century

Kohli, a behemoth in the cricketing world, etched his name in the history books by scoring his 50th ODI hundred during the semi-final clash against New Zealand at Mumbai's iconic Wankhede Stadium on November 15. His phenomenal century not only steered India to a commanding position but also broke the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's record for the most hundreds in ODIs.

Djokovic, an ace in tennis, took to Twitter to laud Kohli's achievement, referring to him as a 'legendary' figure. This praise from the Serbian tennis maestro, who himself finished 2023 as the No.1 ranked player on the ATP for the eighth time, highlighted the mutual respect and admiration shared among top athletes across different sports.

Virat Kohli's innings was a masterclass in batting finesse and determination. Coming in at a crucial juncture after the dismissal of Rohit Sharma, Kohli amassed 117 runs off 113 balls, featuring nine fours and two sixes. His performance was crucial in India posting a formidable total of 397 for four, setting the stage for their eventual 70-run victory and securing their spot in the final.

Notably, Kohli's gesture of bowing down to Tendulkar, who was present in the stands, after reaching his century, was a touching tribute to the cricket legend. Kohli also surpassed Tendulkar's record for the most runs in a single World Cup edition.
