Sri Lanka have announced their playing XI for the second Test against England and have made two changes in their squad with Pathum Nissanka and Lahiru Kumara coming into the line-up in place of Kusal Mendis and Vishwa Fernando.

The move to drop Kusal Mendis from the XI is a quite a bold one as Mendis is one of the experienced batter in the Lankan team. However, his replacement Pathum Nissanka has been in good form in white-ball cricket and can bring stability at the top of the order.

The addition of Lahiru Kumara, on the other hand, adds more teeth to the bowling attack with his extra pace and can be handy if Sri Lanka need someone to rattle England batters during the Test.

Rest of the XI remains same with Nishan Madushka retaining his opening position after twin failures in the first Test.

Onus On Lankan Middle Order To Fire

Sri Lankan middle order did score runs in the opening Test and once again the onus will be on the experienced trio of Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal and Dhananjaya De Silva to do the bulk of scoring alongside Kamindu Mendis who slammed a brilliant century at Old Trafford.

On the bowling front, Asitha Fernando showed lot of character in the first Test and his role with all-rounder Milan Rathnayake will be crucial in this game. England, on the other hand, have also announced their playing XI and they have made one change with Olly Stone coming in for Mark Wood.
