4 Candidates Who Are Frontrunners To Replace Jay Shah As BCCI Secretary

On Tuesday, August 27, BCCI secretary Jay Shah took up a new role as he was unveiled as the new ICC chairman, replacing Greg Barclay. 

Shah's tenure as ICC chief will begin on December 1 and will continue to perform his duties at the BCCI till then. Meanwhile, the apex cricket board has a huge task ahead of them as they need to find a replacement for Shah. 

In the latest events, Latestly have reported that three contenders are in the race to succeed Shah for the secretary post. 

The front runners are Delhi and District Cricket Association president Rohan Jaitley, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal, BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar, and former President of Cricket Association of Bengal Avishek Dalmiya. 

Rohan Jaitley

Jaitley is the current president of Delhi District and Cricket Association. He recently hogged the internet during the launch of the inaugural edition of Delhi Premier League. 

Arun Dhumal

Arun Dhumal, who is the brother of former BCCI president Anurag Thakur, joined as IPL chairman in 2022. Dhumal has also previously served as BCCI treasurer. 

Ashish Shelar

The 51-year-old, who serves as the treasurer for the BCCI is also a renowned name in politics as he is associated with BJP Maharashtra. 

Avishek Dalmiya

Avishek Dalmiya has served as president of Cricket Association of Bengal and was also associated with BCCI in their IPL governing council. 

Rohan Jaitley Denies Joining BCCI

Recently, Rohan Jaitley, who is reported by IANS as the frontrunner to replace Shah, denied joining the BCCI and stated that he has no interest in that position and is focused on uplifting the standards of the DDCA. 

Jay Shah's Upcoming Plans As ICC Chief

Our goal is to make cricket more inclusive and popular than ever before," remarked Jay Shah.

It is still uncertain whether Shah will shift his base to Dubai, where the ICC headquarters is situated.
