The Indian Premier League is done and dusted and the focus now shifts towards the all-important England tour which commences on June 20. India have a new-looked squad for the series with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from Tests. Shubman Gill was named the new captain and the team touched down in England on Saturday, June 7.
The BCCI social media team released a video as the team landed in England. The players looked happy as there were jokes flying all-around. In the video, Jasprit Bumrah was joking about Gill wearing sunglasses at night, and newcomer, Sai Sudharsan expressed his excitement on the tour.
Rohit, Kohli's absence hurts Team India?
However, as Team India landed in UK, there was something missing from the video. There were hardly any fans to welcome the side. Interestingly, wherever the team goes they receive a rousing reception, however, as per reports, that was not the case when Gill led side reached.
One main reason for this could be the absence of star power from the team. There is no Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the side and the two Indian stalwarts have immense fan-following. Hence, with the duo not being a part of the side, the craze for the Indian team has perhaps reduced.
India's schedule for England tour
Prior to the main team, the India A squad reached UK and will play two unofficial Tests against England Lions. While one match has already been done and dusted, the second Test is going on currently.
India A will also play a practice match Vs India main team, which will be followed by the start of the Test series. The first Test match commences at Headingley, Leeds. The second game will take place at Edgbaston, followed by matches in Lord's, Old Trafford and Kennington Oval.
