In a significant achievement, Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian Senior Men's cricket team. The Cricket Advisory Committee, which includes Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape, and Sulakshana Naik, unanimously recommended Gambhir for the position.

He will take on his new role starting from the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka on July 27. He took the role from Rahul Dravid, who ended his tenure on a high note, having recently led India to victory in the T20 World Cup.

Gambhir's Appointment As Head Coach Done With The Consultation Of Virat Kohli

According to the reports of Hindustan Times, Gautam Gambhir's appointment as the head coach was done without the consultation of Virat Kohli

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) bypassed consulting Kohli, before making Gambhir’s appointment public. Although, several other players like Hardik Pandya were informed before the official announcement.

“There is enough time for the two to have conversations over the table. But it was important for the BCCI to look at the big picture with many youngsters likely to feature in the coming years,” a BCCI official told Hindustan Times.

The former KKR mentor and Virat Kohli do not share good and cordial relationship on the field and have been involved in multiple on-field arguments and brutal fights in the IPL.

But things took a U-turn in the recent IPL 2024 when Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir seemed to sort things out and shared light moments on the field.

As Gambhir steps into his new role, it will be interesting to see his management skills and the relationship he shares with senior players like  Kohli and Rohit.

However it it is important to mention that Kohli and Rohit might not play in Gambhir's debut series as India's head coach. The dynamic duo have requested BCCI for a longer break and would likely return against Bangladesh.
