Ravichandran Ashwin recently revealed a key piece of advice from former India captain MS Dhoni that has greatly influenced his career: to "be funky and innovative."

Dhoni, renowned for his ability to bring out the best in players, has guided Ashwin both in the Indian team and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). This counsel has helped Ashwin develop his street-smart approach and hone his skills in spin and variations.

Dhoni's Valuable Advice To R Ashwin

In a recent interview with RevzSports, Ashwin shared how Dhoni's pivotal advice has remained constant over the years and this advice has helped him.

The former CSK captain advised Ashwin that his greatest strength is to try new things and be funky in approach. He also stated that you should not change yourself for anyone else.

"He (Dhoni) always said, 'Your greatest strength is to try new things, to be funky. So, do not change that for anybody else.'

He also shared an incident when Ashwin asked Dhoni  'How you find it that I have developed that back spin ?'. To this Dhoni replied that it was Ashwin's strength and you have always been funky in approach.

I met him in Dubai after a came between Delhi against CSK and I asked him, 'How you find it? I have developed that back spin.' He said, 'You are always like that. It has been your strength. Remember, you continue to be funky. Remember, you continue to work on your variations'. I was like, this was what he told me 15 years ago," Ashwin shared.

The only 'special advice' Dhoni had for Ashwin was that the latter should continue to transform himself.  Ashwin, even at the age of 37, continues to add new variations to his bowling, to remain a challenging opponent to face for batters.
