KL Rahul is gearing up for the opening Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Series as he hit the nets at WACA Ground in Perth to practise in a length session. In a video shared by Tristan Lavalette, KL Rahul, who is in contention to open in the first Test, was seen working on his front foot and other technical flaws in the crucial sessions.
The Indian team landed in Perth for the much anticipated Border Gavaskar Series against Australia. The series opener is scheduled at Optus Stadium on November 22 and the visitors landed in the city on Monday.
Meanwhile, BCCI cancelled India’s intra squad practice game against India-A to avoid last minute injuries and hence the seniors will have to rely on net sessions to adapt to Australian conditions. On Tuesday, a special net session was hosted for India at the WACA stadium where KL Rahul marked a notable appearance.
KL Rahul sweats in nets at Perth amid suspense over playing XI role
He was one of the first key batters to pad up and face fast bowlers. Interestingly, KL Rahul was seen working on his front foot and also trying to adjust to the bounce and pace of the pitch. Rahul is coming off a horrendous outing against Australia A in the second unofficial Test held at MCG. He scored 4 and 10 in two innings, including a brain fade dismissal that resulted in heavy backlash.
However, irrespective of the lean patch, KL Rahul is in the mix to potentially open India’s innings in the Perth Test, as suggested by head coach Gautam Gambhir. Captain Rohit Sharma stayed back in India due to personal commitments and is expected to miss the first Test. While Jasprit Bumrah will replace him as stand-in captain, Abhimanyu Easwaran and KL Rahul are top choices to open alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Jaiswal, Pant joins net session at Perth, Kohli missing
In a separate video shared by journalist Tristan Lavalette, before KL Rahul, wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal were also spotted practising at the nets in Perth’s WACA Ground. The duo hit long shots and also blocked a few balls to refine defensive technique. However, Virat Kohli, who was the first Indian player to reach Perth, was interestingly missing from the Tuesday’s practice sessions.
