In a significant development, sporting relations between India and Pakistan are likely to be heavily impacted after the former refused to travel to Pakistan to participate in Champions Trophy 2025, citing security reasons. As India pushes for a hybrid model, Pakistan activates revenge mode as they plan to protest against India’s 2036 Olympics hosting bid.
BCCI have verbally conveyed to ICC that Indian team won’t travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 20205 citing severed political relations and security concerns. The board wants to push for a hybrid model where the men in blue play their games at a neutral venue.
However, Pakistan is not pleased with the decision as PCB spent millions on upgrading their stadium and other hosting arrangements. India’s refusal will impact their revenue as they wish to host the entire tournament in their backyard.
Pakistan-India at crossroads over Champions Trophy participation
Amid intense tussle and drama between the two neighbouring nations, GEO News reported that Pakistan has devised a revenge plan if India foils their Champions Trophy hosting plans.
Apparently, Pakistan will refuse to play against India in any international sporting event henceforth if the men in blue refuse to travel for CT 2025. Not only that, the Pakistan government also plans to protest against India’s hosting bid for the 2036 Olympics.
As per reports, India formally sent a letter to Future Hosts Commission (FHC) of the IOC last month to propose their intent to host the global event in 2036. Indonesia, Turkey and Chile are also in the mix as India jostles to bag the precious rights. However, Pakistan plans to disrupt India’s Olympic plan by staging a strong protest and might threaten to withdraw if their demands are not met.
PCB to propose eliminating India from Champions Trophy
After India verbally refused to travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025, PCB reportedly is considering sending a letter to ICC requesting that the tournament be held entirely in Pakistan without India. Notably, BCCI have shortlisted UAE as a hybrid venue as they remain firm on their decision to avoid travel to the neighbouring country due to security reasons.
