Khaleel Ahmed Ruled Out Of India's Squad With Injury; RCB Star Named Replacement

Ahead of the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India have dealt a blow as their star bowler, Khaleel Ahmed, who was a part of the India squad as a travelling reserve, has suffered a niggle and has been ruled out of the crucial series.

Meanwhile, RCB star bowler, Yash Dayal, who was recently a part of the New Zealand tour, has earned another India call-up and will fly to Perth as a travelling reserve.

Yash Dayal Replaces Mitchell Starc

It is worth noting that Ahmed was a part of the India squad to help the main squad tackle Mitchell Starc. In order to help the players do a simulation for Starc, the BCCI had selected Ahmed, but now since he is injured, Dayal will do the same role for the Indian team.

"It was a like-for-like replacement because the Indian team needs to do a simulation for Mitchell Starc. Dayal was originally supposed to play the A Test but was sent to South Africa. If Khaleel can't bowl then there was no point in keeping him back," the BCCI source told PTI.

Devdutt Padikkal Added To Main Squad

It is worth noting that Padikkal, who was recently with the India A squad, has been added to the main squad as Shubman Gill is doubtful for the first Test. BCCI asked Padikkal to stay back on stand-by.

Meanwhile, India's bowling coach Morne Morkel recently provided an update on Gill and remarked that the GT captain is still in contention to be fit in time for the first Test, and a call on his availability will be taken on the morning of the matchday.
