In a shocking development coming from the Gujarat Titans, their lead pacer, Kagiso Rabada has flown back to South Africa mid-way through the IPL 2025 season due to personal reasons. The exact cause is unknown, but his absence will be a big blow for the Titans who are on a two-game winning streak.
GT's lead pacer leaves IPL midway
Eyebrows were raised when Shubman Gill dropped him for the clash against RCB on Wednesday, but initially it looked like a tactical decision before it was revealed that he would miss the match due to personal reasons. However, there is no official confirmation as to how many matches will the Proteas bowler miss.
“Kagiso Rabada has returned to South Africa to deal with an important personal matter,” said in a statement by Gujarat Titans.
Rabada was bought by GT for INR 10.75 crore and there were high expectations from the South African pacer after his exploits in the IPL for DC and PBKS.
Rabada's average outings in IPL 2025
There was a weight of expectations from Rabada, but in the two matches he played, the pacer looked ordinary. In 2 matches, he was able to pick up just 2 wickets, but with a strike-rate of 24 and an economy almost touching 11.
Many believed that for his poor form, Gill might have dropped Rabada for the RCB match, but it turned out to be false. The one-time IPL winner will certainly miss his services, especially in the power-play.
