In a significant development, Pakistan have been slapped with hefty fine for a slow over-rate offence in the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand. Led by Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan sustained their lean patch in the series, incurring another defeat from the BlackCaps.

What Is Slow Over Rate Rule In Cricket?

As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which governs minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five percent of their match fees for each over their team falls short of bowling in stipulated time.

Match Referee Penalises Pakistan For Slow Over Rate Offence

Under Mohammad Rizwan's leadership, Pakistan failed to complete their full quota of overs within the stipulated time. They were found one over short; so, the ICC match referee Jeff Crowe fined the visiting players five per cent of their match fees.

It's worth mentioning that the Pakistan players were fined ten per cent of their match fees after falling two overs short of their target in the first ODI of the series in Napier

Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan accepted the sanction; so, the ICC didn't conduct a formal hearing.

Pakistan To Play For Pride In 3rd ODI

After losing the five-match series by four-one, Pakistan had a horrible start to the ODI leg, conceding two successive games. The last game was a one-sided affair, which the BlackCaps won by a convincing margin of 84 runs. So, moving on to the last game, the visitors would be keen to secure a win and conclude the tour on a high note.
