Will Naqvi step down as PCB Chairman? [Source:@_FaridKhan/X.com]
The inevitable has happened and PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi has been appointed as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). He officially replaces Jay Shah, who was recently appointed as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and left his post as the President of ACC an Secretary of BCCI.
Since the start of 2024, Naqvi held the position of Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) Chairman, and under his tenure, Pakistan hosted an ICC tournament for the first time in 29 years and also initiated the redevelopment of their Cricket Stadiums.
However, with him getting appointed as the ACC President, the question arises, will Naqvi have to step down from the role of PCB Chairman?. Can he hold dual positions?.
Will Naqvi step down from the role of PCB Chairman?
There is no official confirmation as of yet, but as per the rules, the President of ACC can hold a position in another organisation as well. Jay Shah, the former President was also the Secretary of the BCCI when he was a part of the ACC, and there was no obligation to step down from the post.
The same could be aply to Naqvi, who can still continue to work as the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket, unless he decides to resign.
Changes Naqvi can bring as ACC President
The Men's Asia Cup tournament will take place this year, and India will host the tournament. However, it is likely to be played in Hybrid Model, due to the strained relation between India and Pakistan.
India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy and Naqvi, becoming the ACC President could mean that he enforces the Hybrid Model for the upcoming tournament.
