In a significant development, swashbuckling English batter Jos Buttler has been ruled out of the upcoming One-Day International series against West Indies. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has named Liam Livingstone as the ODI captain in Buttler's absence.
However, as reported by ESPN Cricinfo, Buttler will join the English side ahead of the five-match T20I series against the hosts. Meanwhile, Essex's wicketkeeper Michael Kyle-Pepper has replaced Buttler in the English ODI side.
Calf Injury Rules Buttler Out Of West Indies ODIs
Hailed for his hard-hitting prowess, Jos Buttler sustained a calf injury soon after England's shambolic T20 World Cup exit, ruling him out of The Hundred 2024. His absence proved costly for Manchester Originals, as they finished as the second-worst team in the competition.
The explosive opener also missed England's white-ball series against Australia at home. While keeper-batter Phil Salt led England's T20I team, Harry Brook captained the ODI side against their arch-rivals.
Although Buttler was included in England's squad for the West Indies tour, the recurring calf injury is all set to delay his international comeback. Meanwhile, his absence gives England a golden opportunity to test Liam Livingstone's leadership potential.
