Mumbai, the 42-time Ranji Champions have released the squad for their third game of Ranji Trophy 2024-25 against Tripura. Big names like Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav and Tanush Kotian are not in the squad for different reasons while Akhil Herwadkar and Karsh Kothari have been added to the squad.
Suryakumar Yadav did not play the opening game of the season for Mumbai, but was part of their win over Maharashtra in the second game. He, however, will miss the next game due to personal commitments while Tanush Kotian will miss the game due to his selection in the India A squad.
Prithvi Shaw Misses Out After String Of Low Scores
However, Prithvi Shaw's exclusion is a surprising move. He has not been in good form in recent times and could manage score of just 7, 12, 1 and 39* in the four innings he has played so far. He is reportedly given a break by the selectors but it should serve as a wake-up call for Shaw whose stocks have rapidly gone down in recent times after some inconsistent performances.
Ajinkya Rahane would continue to lead Mumbai and he will have the experience of Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur and Shams Mulani along with him. Shreyas Iyer recently came back in form with fantastic 142 while Ayush Mhatre, the opener also scored 176 in their win over Maharashtra. Mumbai, however, lost their opening game of the season and would now be looking to continue the momentum they gained with a win over Maharashtra.
The match against Tripura will be played at the MBB Stadium in Agartala from October 26th to October 29 and the home team will also be high on confidence after thumping win over Meghalaya by an innings and 17 runs.
