In the significant news, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, made an early morning visit to Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore today (October 21) to assess the ongoing construction work as part of the stadium's upgrade project for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Naqvi’s inspection comes just ahead of his departure to Dubai to attend the crucial ICC meeting, which began on October 19.

During his visit, Naqvi expressed urgency regarding the stadium renovations, calling for rapid progress and encouraging the project team to work around the clock wherever feasible. He also stressed the importance of maintaining the highest standards of quality throughout the construction process. 

"The construction of floors and the steel fixing structure is progressing rapidly," Naqvi stated, adding that the stadium’s basement has been completed and work on the enclosures is well underway. All resources must be utilized to ensure that the Gaddafi Stadium upgrading project is completed ahead of the Champions Trophy. No effort should be spared to meet the deadlines for this significant project."he emphasized.

As part of the review, Naqvi was briefed by the project team and took a detailed look at the construction progress, which is part of Pakistan’s broader preparation for hosting the Champions Trophy 2025. Following the inspection, Naqvi departed for Dubai, where he will represent Pakistan alongside PCB Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer at the final board meeting of the ICC.

The meetings are particularly significant as Pakistan prepares to host the ICC Champions Trophy for the first time since 2009. The PCB chairman is expected to provide updates to the ICC on renovation efforts at Gaddafi Stadium, the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi, and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, all of which are undergoing upgrades in anticipation of the tournament.

As the host nation, Pakistan is under pressure to ensure that the stadium renovations are completed on time and up to international standards. The ongoing work at Gaddafi Stadium, in particular, is seen as crucial for the country’s successful hosting of this major ICC event.

The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9, with a reserve day set for March 10. Pakistan will compete in Group A alongside India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, while Group B features England, South Africa, Australia, and Afghanistan.
