In the ongoing first match of the Duleep Trophy 2024 between India A and India B, star wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant, playing for India B, departed after scoring just 7 runs on Day 1 of the inaugural match.

After being put into bat first, India B lost early wickets, and Pant, coming in at number five, sought to stabilize the innings.

However, Pant’s stay at the crease was short-lived. In the 36th over, bowled by Akash Deep, Pant attempted an ambitious shot to loft a length delivery down the ground but mistimed it. 

India A captain Shubman Gill took a stunning, Superman-like catch at mid-off, leaving spectators in awe. Gill, who briefly clutched his shoulder after the catch, was assisted by teammates but appeared to be fine afterward.

This dismissal was a major blow to India B, who were already under pressure. The very next ball saw Nitish Reddy, the new batter, fall to Akash Deep for a golden duck, further compounding India B's troubles. Reddy had no answer to a superb delivery that left him stunned.

Earlier in the match, Team A star pacer Avesh Khan drew first blood for his team as he removed the skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran for 13 runs, later Khaleel Ahmed dismissed the big wicket, Yashasvi Jaiswal

By the time of writing, India B was 94 for 6 after 41 overs, with India A firmly in control. Shubman Gill’s exceptional leadership and fielding, combined with Akash Deep's incisive bowling, had left India B struggling to regain momentum.
