Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings have shown their interest in Mumbai's promising opening batter Ayush Mhatre ahead of the 2025 mega auction. Mhatre, 17, has been impressive with the bat for Mumbai, slamming 288 runs at a healthy average of 41.14 in the ongoing Ranji Trophy competition.

Ayush Mhatre Impresses MS Dhoni Before IPL Mega Auction

As reported by the Times of India (TOI), Ayush Mhatre has managed to grab the attention of the legendary MS Dhoni and the Super Kings' scouting team through his stoic batting in the domestic red-ball tournament. His recent batting exploits, including a flamboyant 176-run knock against Maharashtra on MCA ground's challenging pitch, have apparently put the ball in his court, with the franchise calling him for its IPL selection trial camp.

As a result, the talented batter is set to report for the trials during the six-day window between the fifth round of Ranji Trophy and the first round of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, i.e. between November 16 and 23.

In fact, CSK's MD and CEO, Mr Kasi Viswanathan, has conveyed the franchise's interest regarding Mhatre to the MCA secretary Abhay Hadap through an official email. As the batter has been included in Mumbai's 28-man probable squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Viswanathan has urged the MCA chief to allow him to appear in the CSK trials.
