On November 6, Domestic star Jalaj Saxena created history as he became the first player to achieve the double of 6,000 runs and 400 wickets in the Ranji Trophy 2024 during Kerala’s fourth-round match against Uttar Pradesh at St Xavier's College Ground, Thumba, Thiruvananthapuram.
The 37-year-old, who crossed the 6,000-run mark in the previous round in Kolkata, reached this significant milestone by claiming his 400th Ranji Trophy wicket with his fourth dismissal against UP. After Kerala opted to field, Saxena dismantled UP’s top order batting-line-up, taking key wickets on both sides of the lunch break. He reached the milestone by dismissing UP’s star batter Nitish Rana for 25, scalping 4th wickets of the day.
It is worth noting that Saxena is now only the 13th bowler in the history of the Ranji Trophy to reach the 400-wicket mark and is the only active cricketer to achieve this feat. Saxena began his cricket career in First-Class with Madhya Pradesh in 2005, where he took 159 wickets and scored 4,041 runs before joining Kerala in the 2016-17 season.
