To the delight of cricket fans across the globe, the much-awaited IPL 2025 mega auction is all set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. 1574 players will go under the hammer, with ten concerned franchises engaging in bidding wars to settle their respective sides before the next season.
However, there are several players who have entered this year's mega auction without any expectations. As the showpiece event nears, let's see which players have a lower base price than people expected.
James Anderson - 1.25 Cr
The former English fast bowler hasn't played a single Indian Premier League season. Despite being a legendary figure in Tests, Anderson has never been into the league across seventeen seasons. However, after retiring from international cricket, the right-arm pacer has registered in the IPL 2025 mega auction, hoping for his maiden appearance in the lucrative tournament.
However, Anderson has kept a base price of INR 1.25 Crores, slightly less than anyone would expect from someone of his stature. Yes, he definitely hasn't been as impactful as Bumrah or Malinga in T20Is, but Anderson is still England's most successful ODI bowler. Also, keeping his supreme fitness in mind, his base price of 1.25 Cr seems a little underwhelming.
Saurabh Netravalkar - 30 Lakhs
Saurabh Netravalkar, Virat Kohli's most lethal bowling weapon during India's triumphant under-19 World Cup campaign in 2008, has registered his name in this year's mega auction.
The left-arm pacer has been the backbone of the United States' bowling unit, particularly in T20Is. Besides swinging the ball upfront, Netravalkar can challenge the batters with his wily variations in the slog overs.
Furthermore, considering his recent exploits in the T20 World Cup on home soil, the left-arm pacer's base price of just 30 Lakhs seems a little less than everyone would expect.
Sarfaraz Khan - 75 Lakhs
Sarfaraz Khan recently grabbed the headlines, playing a magnificent knock in India's first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru. Despite being a prolific performer in red-ball cricket, Sarfaraz Khan has yet to make his mark in the IPL.
Barring a 40-odd-run cameo for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sarfaraz hasn't done anything significant in IPL, managing only 585 runs at an average of 22.5 in 37 innings. It's true that he hasn't got regular opportunities and it could help him rebuild his IPL career if some team purchases him for 75 lakhs.
Prithvi Shaw - 75 Lakhs
The most shocking name in the 75 lakh bracket is Prithvi Shaw, who has been released by Delhi Capitals ahead of the mega auction. After a promising start, his career has only gone downhill due to form and fitness.
The explosive opener was marred with inconsistency in the IPL 2024, amassing only 198 runs at a modest average of 24.75. So, his base price of INR 75 lakhs signifies he hopes to somehow get into a team's setup to rejuvenate his IPL career.
