In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the ratings of the pitches used in the T20 World Cup 2024. While 31 pitches have been termed satisfactory, 18 strips are kept in the 'very good' category. On the other hand, three pitches have been rated 'unsatisfactory' by the governing body.

The ICC has rated two pitches of the Nassau County Stadium as unsatisfactory. Notably, the playing conditions in New York largely favoured the bowlers, making it incredibly tough for the batters to score runs.

The strip used in India's first group-stage match against Ireland has been rated unsatisfactory, courtesy of the adverse playing conditions it offered during the match. After bowling Ireland out for a paltry 96-run total, India rode their luck to chase the target in 12.2 overs.

The tracks for South Africa's inaugural match against Sri Lanka and semifinal clash against Afghanistan have also been termed unsatisfactory due to a similar reason.

These games were heavily dominated by the Proteas bowlers, who ran through the opposition's batting lineups, capitalising on the seam-friendly conditions.

A fresh pitch was dished out for the semifinal in Tarouba, earning massive backlash from Afghanistan's head coach, Jonathan Trott, who slammed the playing conditions by saying,

"That’s not the pitch that you want to have a match, a semi-final of a World Cup, on plain and simple. It should be a fair contest."

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting also criticised the surface in Tarouba, calling it strange to use a fresh pitch for an all-important semifinal.
