Things have not been the same since India's humiliating series defeat against New Zealand. This was the first time since 2002, that India were whitewashed at home by a visiting nation, that too, Tom Latham led New Zealand, who made history by becoming the first Kiwi captain to win a series in India.

Leading the pack of criticisers is the former Indian cricketer, Sanjay Manjrekar, who has once again slammed the selectors for excluding Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from domestic cricket. In his latest tweet, Manjrekar said that it's a big lesson that the selectors have learnt for not making the two Indian stalwarts bat in the Duleep Trophy. He also highlighted that their participation would have been good for there own self.

“The big learning for the selectors from this home season is that do not rest the already well-rested players because of their stature. I say this again, both Rohit & Virat would only have benefited from playing the Duleep Trophy start of the season,” he wrote.

Rohit Sharma And Co Face Criticism Following Series Defeat

India's recent disappointing losses have raised concerns ahead of the 2024-2025 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India was expected to bounce back after a demoralizing defeat in the first Test at Bengaluru, but their performance on home soil remained lacklustre in the subsequent Test matches that took place in Pune and Mumbai.

Mitchell Santner exploited India's vulnerability in Pune on a spin-friendly pitch while the Indian batters faltered against the BlackCaps. Whereas, Ajaz Patel took charge in the final Test as he picked up 11 wickets on the Wankhede pitch.

Going forward, India's qualification for the World Test Championship Final now hinges on securing four wins from their final five matches.
