Lalit Modi has warned IPL franchises not to be misled by ECB's projections of their 100-ball annual competition, The Hundred. The former IPL chairman claimed that the English cricket board is trying to build much hype around the tournament by misrepresenting certain facts.

According to the latest updates, the ECB is aiming to privatize The Hundred by selling a close to 100 per cent stake in eight teams of the league. A number of renowned IPL franchises, such as Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals, are reportedly lining up to buy stakes in the England-based 100-ball tournament.

Lalit Modi cautions IPL franchises from ECB

Lalit Modi made some sensational claims about the ECB's projections for The Hundred. The former Indian cricket administrator stated that the international rights of The Hundred are "worth zero" and further claimed that the ECB is misrepresenting certain numbers to woo lucrative investments, particularly from IPL-based cash-rich franchises.

Modi even claimed that hardly any T20 league has made any significant revenue from overseas markets, be it ECB's The Hundred, CA's Big Bash, UAE's ILT20, West Indies' CPL or CSA's SA20 competitions.

Lalit Modi added that the ECB aims to get a valuation of 300 million pounds for a team and described the proposition as not worthwhile due to the lack of popularity of certain franchises of The Hundred.

As of now, the ECB owns 100 per cent of The Hundred competition along with all its competing teams from both men's and women's divisions.

The ECB hosted the 2024 edition of The Hundred between July and August earlier this year. While the Deepti Sharma-starrer London Spirit won the Women's competition, the Oval Invincibles bagged the men's title.

It is worth noting that while Indian women superstars frequently participate in The Hundred, the men players are still prohibited from participation under BCCI's strict overseas T20 league policy.
