Team India seized early advantage with a comprehensive bowling performance on a rain-curtailed opening day of their second Test against Bangladesh at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium on September 27.

Here’s the timeline of how IND vs BAN panned out in Kanpur:

IND vs BAN Highlights: Akash Deep Removes Both Openers In First Hour

Indian seamer Akash Deep struck twice when the ball was still hard and fresh by getting rid of both Bangladeshi openers. After Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam cautiously carved their way to 26-0 in eight overs, the former lost his momentum by nicking towards Yashasvi Jaiswal at slip.

With Hasan walking back to the sheds for a 24-ball duck, his partner Shadman also joined him in the pavilion courtesy of Akash Deep as Bangladesh had their cautious start squandered away at 29-2 within the opening hour of play.

IND vs BAN Highlights: Mominul, Captain Shanto Steer BAN To Safety By Lunch

Bangladesh’s number three Mominul Haque and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto subsequently navigated their team to 74-2 by the time of Lunch on Day 1. Their unbroken partnership of 45 runs helped Bangladesh attain some stability after an unwavering start to the innings.

Mominul headed out for lunch with a trail of 17*, while his skipper and in-form Shanto had scored 28* at the same stage.

IND vs BAN Highlights: Ravi Ashwin Strikes Post Lunch Before Rains Halt Play

Legendary Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin prevented the unbeaten Bangladeshi stand from flourishing in the post-lunch session. The cricketer trapped a well-set Najmul Hossain Shanto (31 off 57) at 80-3 after the latter had already formed a fighting 51-run partnership with Mominul Haque.

Mominul, meanwhile, added 27 more runs to the Bangladeshi total alongside fellow unbeaten batter Mushfiqur Rahim before rains halted play at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. Both Mominul (40*) and Rahim (6*) will now resume Bangladesh innings on Day 2 at 107-3 from 35 overs.
