In a shocking turn of events, an inexperienced Indian cricket team suffered a surprising 13-run defeat at the hands of Zimbabwe, leading to a wave of criticism from home fans.

With a view to help the youngsters get some international cricket experience, BCCI sent an inexperienced lineup led by Shubman Gill featuring several IPL stars to Zimbabwe for a five-game T20I series.

However, the series opener turned out to be a harsh reality check for the so-called future stars of Indian cricket.

India bowled well to restrict Zimbabwe to 115 runs total in the first innings. Ravi Bishnoi registered his best T20I career figures as the men in blue sensed a comfortable chase.

However, Zimbabwe fought back bravely to not only give the visitors a tough time but also produce an upset. Tendai Chatara rocked the top order and induced a collapse. Sikandar Raza won the captain's battle and removed India's last hope, Shubman Gill, in the 11th over.

With India reduced to 47/6, Raza tightened the leash and dismantled the lower order with quality spin bowling. Chatara defended 16 off the final over to take his team through the finish line and produce a massive upset.

Meanwhile, fans back home in India were stunned to see the youngsters who dominated IPL just a couple of months back struggle in a 116-run chase against a side like Zimbabwe.

In a fit of frustration, many fans called the team a bunch of frauds who were only good enough to play on flat pitches.

Indeed, the results were shocking. But it's also important to note that India was playing with several debutants. The series is still open, and the young brigade has enough time to come back.
