In a huge boost to the Delhi Capitals, pacer Anrich Nortje is all set to join the squad ahead of their next match against the Rajasthan Royals, set to be played on March 28 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.
Nortje missed out on joining the Delhi Capitals squad for its opening match against the Punjab Kings due to ongoing fitness concerns. However, following his recent comeback to competitive cricket in South Africa, he's now ready to rejoin the team.
The Proteas pacer sat out the entire ODI World Cup 2023 in India last year, as well as South Africa's home series against India later that year and in early 2024. He also had to skip the entire SA20 2024 season with the Pretoria Capitals.
Lacklustre Start for Delhi Capitals
The IPL 2024 season didn't start well for Delhi Capitals as they suffered a defeat to Punjab Kings by four wickets. Additionally, it marked the return of their captain Rishabh Pant, who had been sidelined for 18 months due to injuries sustained in an accident.
Upon his comeback, Rishabh Pant contributed 18 runs off 13 balls as Delhi Capitals set a total of 174 runs, losing nine wickets in the process. However, Punjab Kings comfortably chased down the target in 19.2 overs to secure the win.
Delhi Capitals, after a poor start, will play Rajasthan in Jaipur before taking on Chennai Super Kings at the newly adopted home at Visakhapatnam on March 31.
