In a massive setback for Pretoria Capitals, ace South African speedster Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the upcoming SA20 tournament due to injury. Notably, Nortje is still recovering from the back injury he sustained before the 2023 World Cup and will, therefore, miss the second season. Pretoria Capitals took to their official twitter handle to inform this news, stating,

"UPDATE! Capitals seamer Anrich Nortje will miss out on Season 2 of the SA20, as he continues his recovery from an injury. The Pretoria family wishes him a speedy recovery!"

Despite being incredibly talented, Nortje's international career hasn't taken off due to frequent injury setbacks.

Hailed for his ability to hit the deck at high pace, Nortje last played an international game in September last year, when he represented the Proteas in an ODI against South Africa in Bloemfontein. Overall, the 30-year-old pacer has scalped 144 international wickets in 72 matches.

Nortje's absence could adversely affect the Capitals' SA20 2024 campaign, as he was their most successful bowler in the inaugural season of the tournament, scalping 20 wickets in 11 appearances.

Regarding Pretoria Capitals, the Eathan Bosch-led side will begin their campaign with a high-voltage clash against Paarl Royals in the third group-stage fixture of the tournament in Paarl on January 12.
